Ian Fraser Kilmister – aka Lemmy – died today. He’s the father of heavy metal and a perfect example of what I refer to as a vocal instrumentalist. He didn’t “sing”. His voice (and his bass) were the bludgeoning instruments of Motorhead. He was a hard drinking, chain smoking, unapologetic, remorseless, rock star. I never got a chance to see him live and other than Iggy Pop, he may be the last rock icons. (If you’re unfamiliar with the man, you should check out this documentary.)
