No such thing as spare time.

No such thing as free time.

No such thing as downtime.

All you got is life time.

The Starbucks app needs to be more contexutal

I’ve been playing with the Starbucks app for awhile and I like some of the things it does. I especially like the geofences it creates when I select my favorite stores. (When you get close to one of your favorite locations, the app creates a push alert that essentially lets you know you’re close AND they are ready to charge you for a drink!) I like this because I’m a geogeek and...

Getting people to use mobile for transactions

Mobile commerce is here!!! If I had a nickel for every time I heard that I’d have about 35 cents. But this time will surely be different! Apple has jumped into the ring for the higher end of the market and MCX with CurrentC will get the lower end. There’s only one small problem: just because people can do something doesn’t mean they will. Mobile transactions aren’t a...

The continuing evolution of social media

Just as society is evolving, so is social media. In fact, many would argue that social media is pushing changes in society almost as quickly mobile technology. (Sounds like a good book!) Social media has gone through four definitive stages and we are neck deep in the fifth. Facebook – With 1.23 billion users, Facebook established people sharing their identity. It’s who you are. This...

Usability and the Apple Watch

I haven’t had much time to comment on the impending release of Apple’s Smartwatch, aptly named Apple Watch (not iWatch) and my biggest question was how easy will the device be to use. The minuscule interface puts the term “limited real estate” to the test. But after watching this video, I’m excited to try it out. I’ve listed out some of the changes that will...

The real issue with privacy

IMHO I pretty much nailed how privacy needs to be handled on a person-by-person level here. But we can’t even get to this point if we don’t solve one issue that 100% of everyone agrees needs to be solved. Security. As a consumer, I can’t even begin to worry about how you’re going to use my data if you can’t protect my data. I am not an identity theft expert but I do...

Mobile Consumer Behavior: The trip home

It has been an amazing class/trip to Japan. I learned a lot about mobile consumer behavior and the cultural characteristics that drive some of the behavioral differences. In the end, if you boil the trip down to its base element(s), it all comes down to culture.  When I started this class, the equation I came up with for mobile consumer behavior was Psychology + Culture + Capability =...

Mobile Consumer Behavior: Day 9 in Japan

Today is our last day in Japan and I got up early, ate and headed out to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. This is a place I’ve always wanted to go and it did not disappoint. It’s about 1/2 hour from our hotel and it was easy to find. There are roughly 1 million photo opportunities and the repetition and process of getting from shrine to shrine was hypnotic. Truly something to be experienced...
