A different kind of Facial Recognition (video)

A

This is a fascinating video about how quickly we subconsciously judge people based on their looks.  This is most likely an evolutionary development and it means that you can’t trust your gut. Your brain does this to reduce cognitive load by classifying someone one way or the other but the implications are numerous. Hiring – Hiring is always a crap shoot and in fact, I’m always...

Five changes brands need to make

F

Way back in May, I was fortunate enough to attend Brandwatch’s Now You Know conference series in Denver. It was an awesome event and it was focused on educating marketers as to what can be known and utilized to build their business’ through social listening. One of my favorite presentations was given by Misia Tramp, VP of Customer Experience Strategy at Metia. Not only was she a great...

SxSW should let attendees use Flipboard to recommend sessions & events you should see

S

This March I’ll be taking graduate/undergraduate students to SxSWi for the third year. (Last year I had 46 students, with zero arrests!) If you’ve been to SxSW before, you understand how intense the event can be. If you haven’t been, it’s like a rapid dive into the deep end of the pool that has you feeling like you know very little about what’s going on in the world...

SxSWi 2016

Big Boulder 2015!

B

Big Boulder is an amazing conference I’ve been fortunate enough to attend for the past four years. The conference is focused on social data and I’m working on a summary post about the event. Until then . . . enjoy!

G

Apple has jumped into the ring for the higher end of the market and MCX with CurrentC will get the lower end. There’s only one small problem: just because people can do something doesn’t mean they will. Mobile transactions aren’t a...

Mobile Consumer Behavior: The trip home

M

It has been an amazing class/trip to Japan. I learned a lot about mobile consumer behavior and the cultural characteristics that drive some of the behavioral differences. In the end, if you boil the trip down to its base element(s), it all comes down to culture.  When I started this class, the equation I came up with for mobile consumer behavior was Psychology + Culture + Capability =...
